As the firm’s Chief Planning Officer, Kacy is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of the firm’s client service philosophy, service offering, and client service processes and resources. He serves on the firm’s Managing Committee, and is Chair of the Wealth Planning Committee.
Kacy began his career in 1986 with Ernst & Young, where he specialized in investments and finance. Prior to joining Aspiriant as an associate planner, he served in several senior financial positions with major corporations, including Webcor Builders and Koll Construction. Kacy became a principal of Aspiriant in 1998.
Active in the industry, Kacy served on the national Board of Directors of the 28,000 member Financial Planning Association (FPA) from 2004 - 2006. He served on several national FPA task forces including his current service on the Diversity Task Force, and was chairman of the 2008 FPA Diversity Summit. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Financial Planning Association of San Francisco where he has served as its Chairman, President and the Director of Public Relations.
Kacy serves on the endowment Committee of The Arc of San Francisco, the resource for people with developmental disabilities. He is also a member of the Tech Museum Professional Advisors Council.
He is currently a member of the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board’s Council on Education, which advises the CFP Board staff on the development and clarification of all educational policies of the CFP® certification process.
Kacy is an active educator of financial planning students and professionals. He has served as an instructor for the Certificate Program in the Personal Financial Planning Program at the University of California-Berkeley and Golden Gate University. Kacy has also served as a mentor at FPA Residency programs in Lake Arrowhead, DePaul University, and Texas Tech University. He has presented at various regional and national conferences for financial planning practitioners.
Kacy collaborated on the book, The Unofficial Guide to Investing in Mutual Funds and contributed to The Unofficial Guide to Personal Financial Planning (both by Stacey Berg). The books serve as sophisticated primers on financial and investment planning issues. Kacy also co-authored the book, Wealth Management, A Concise Guide to Financial Planning and Investment Management for Wealthy Clients. He has been a frequent contributor to ABCNews.com and has been quoted by the Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Men’s Health, Marketwatch.com, Investors.com and SmartMoney.com.
Kacy holds a BS degree in Finance from San Diego State University. He earned his Certified Public Accountant credential in 1990 and his Certified Financial Planner credential in 1996.
